Ocsober starts TOMORROW!

Be Healthy, Make a Difference!

With summer right around the corner, thousands of Australians are losing the booze and committing to a month without alcohol in an effort to live a healthier lifestyle and to raise much-needed funds for Ocsober.

So far registrations for this Ocsober are 21 percent higher than the previous year. Life Education, the national not-for-profit behind the campaign, is encouraging even more Australians to sign up and to commit to the challenge of giving up alcohol and to raise vital funds to support Aussie kids.

david_ballhausen“Whether it’s to lose weight or to set a good example for Aussie kids, you will help raise crucial funds to support Life Education’s drug and alcohol programs. There are plenty of reasons to give up alcohol for the month of October and fundraise for a good cause,” says Life Education CEO, David Ballhausen.

“By saying ‘no’ to alcohol for the next 31 days and asking your friends and family to sponsor you, you will help Life Education to make a real difference,” says David.

With the help of their ambassadors including Angry Anderson, Professor Gordian Fulde, Georgie Gardner, Natalie Gruzlewski, Kellie and Matt Hayden, Jacinta Tynan and Peter FitzSimons, Life Education are hoping to raise $700,000 this year to educate thousands of Aussie kids through health education programs.

The Life Education program aims to teach children the importance of good nutrition and physical activity, as well as empowering them with knowledge about peer and social pressures around smoking, alcohol and drugs.

Professor Gordian Fulde with title“Each drink is 10 grams of alcohol. It’s about the direct relationship between each gram of alcohol and how it affects your liver, your brain and your whole body. If you have two or three glasses of wine, or bottles of beer, each night, it’s just like UV and the sun – it just keeps adding up and can cause serious damage,” says Professor Gordian Fulde, from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.

“My work as an emergency doctor allows me to see first-hand the effect that alcohol has on our community and on families. I would encourage every Australian adult to sign up for Ocsober to raise awareness about our nation’s problem with alcohol, and importantly to raise money for Life Education to continue their vital work educating school children about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs,” says Professor Fulde.

Harold and Kid High Five2“Signing up for Ocsober and raising just $88 can help Life Education teach ten vulnerable children about the dangers of alcohol misuse, while $234 can help us deliver an important alcohol and drug education message to a classroom of school students. The more you raise, the more children we can reach across Australia. This is your chance to make a real difference to the lives of Aussie kids,” says David.
